Suggested Curriculum Applications:

  1. Download youtube videos to you PC to show to classes efficiently without having to wait
  2. Select just the section required from any video for easy viewing of relevant material only

Pitfalls:

You cannot search for and chop videos on the the College network - must be done from home. The chopped video will, however, play at school.

Instructions:​

DOWNLOADING:
Go to http://www.youtube.com to locate the required video
Go to tthe address bar and type "save" in front of youtube in the URL
e.g. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=627P3WYaU-o
will change to http://saveyoutube.com/watch/?v=627P3WYaU-o
Choose the format you want (e.g. flv, mp4)
Select where you want to save the vidoe, re-name and save
The video will then download onto your computer in the selected format
COPYRIGHT issues - check http://smartcopying.edu.au/scw/go/pid/855 and do the right thing

CHOPPING:
Go to http://www.tubechop.com
Enter the URL of the video to be chopped in the search box or alternativlely search for a topic
Select "chop it" and play the video, noting the time segment of the required section
Pause the vidoe and move the two black barriers in to each end of the required section
Chop it
Note the URL to the chopped video
or Copy the embed code and embed in a web page, blog or wiki
After playing the chopped segment, have options to play again or to play the whole video.
